AFRICA Women In Politics Series: Meet Bogolo Kenewendo Botswana’s Youngest Parliamentarian.

GABORONE BOTSWANA. At 31, Bogolo Kenewendo is Botswana’s youngest member of Parliament and a cabinet minister. She oversees the trade portfolio and works on economic policy and poverty alleviation.

Before taking office, Hon.Bogolo Kenewendo co-founded Molaya Kgosi, a mentorship program for young women. She has served as a role model for a rising generation of aspiring female politicians and technocrats across the continent.

Botswana Against Rape Culture

When Ms. Zinedine Gioia, a Botswana based model and socialite went public about an alleged date rape that took place last year on her 21st birthday, and the seemingly abandonment of the case by the authorities, the youthful Specially Elected Member of Parliament Ms. Bogolo Kenewendo, reached out to Gioia. She also offered to liaise with relevant authorities on her behalf to check the status of her case.

Hon Kenewendo also added that she hopes ‘this will get you closer to some sort of peace and justice’.
